This phrase in its simplest understanding is to trust in God in all our ways. His instructions to us might seem difficult, or to some out of line in human context. However, they represent the perfect purpose and to the best solution to all human mysteries or challenges. Before delving into this gracious and interesting spiritual matter, let us give ourselves some background knowledge to the phrase on our review.
Here we go…in Biblical dispensation of the Old Testament, King Saul was instructed by God through Prophet Samuel to destroy the Amalekites because when the people of Israel were in the desert, after leaving Egypt (Slavery) on their way to the promised land (Liberty), the Amalekites withstood and fought with the people even in their distressed state of homelessness and turbulent journey. Quickly summarized, God used the Israelites in historic context to show to the whole of humanity in spiritual context how He sees and fights for His people (Believers) against the debacles of the works of darkness (Evil). Therefore, when He instructed the destruction of the Amalekites, He was not interested in killing or taking lives, but to show to His own through the imperishable message of the Holy Scriptures that those that fight against His righteousness in believers would receive the wrath of His punishment. When situations challenge the Glory of God in the lives of believers, whose faith are anchored on His Glory, God in His infinite mercies and faithfulness would respond in demolishing the works of the devil in that situation or in the lives of His people. A further layer of spiritual fact to this instruction was that the punishment was a pointer in our daily lives not to add to the pains of those we meet in our different lives in their state of homelessness and dejection because such attitudes represent wickedness from the spirit of evil, who God that is good is totally against.
Now, back to our line of spiritual guidance from the Spirit of Glory on King Saul and his disobedience to follow through with the instructions of God. His disobedience, if we care to estimate it, was equivalent to what Adam and Eve did. We can also include Moses’ disobedience of striking the rock twice for water, instead of once as instructed by God. We can stretch it further with Jonah’s refusal to God’s instructions to preach to the wickedness in the city of Nineveh and his ensuing result in the belly of the whale, which signifies the pit of no return, only restored by divine grace. There are countless cases of outright disobedience to the will of God in the Holy Bible and their consequences. Here, we are primed on King Saul because God wants to show to us that His instructions are not callous, wicked and too high meant to break us. Rather, His instructions are not difficult but challenging, wake up calls as they open up our focus to His higher esteem, and when dutifully followed, they lead to great upgrade in our personal fortitude or character and the joy of His Glory. Let us for a moment, assume for the sake of spiritual safari, what was Saul’s excuse for his disobedience? Regretfully, instead of taking outright responsibility as the leader of the people, who was directly instructed on an assignment and to sincerely ask for forgiveness after he disobeyed. He showed the greatest defaults of leadership (Accountability) and loss in self-understanding (Vision), when he put the blame on the people because according to his words “he feared the people and obeyed their voice.” On the other hand, let us look at the words of Samuel on this whole issue. Prophet Samuel said, “hath the Lord has great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” Powerful and straight in line with God’s values.
The key point for us to understand is that obedience is trust in God built on His love in the heart. Whenever these combinations of trust and love are solidly entrenched in the human heart to the issues of God, we observe that to obey becomes a sweet or pleasurable exercise, which would always build the human person to the values of the heavenly as a firm beacon of strength and purpose to others around us. That means, the things or values of God always start within to the outside. God is never going to give us an assignment without some tests or examples within our lives and through that means pass it on to others. Though, there are also cases He would send messages directly through one vessel to another or community of people. However, whenever God gives out His instructions directly to any vessel or vessels, they are not just mere words but they carry the weight of His Glory and the rejection to follow through is similar to direct slap on His face and a challenge to His authority, just like the spirit of witchcraft is a rebellion against all things that God represent. Witchcraft is the demonic power of the evil acting very very discreetly through humans against the goodwill of God in existence. Saul said something that we must all take close notice of, he said he “feared the people.” We see what the spirit of fear can do? It would always lead us to disapprove of the authority of God’s love in human lives. Love conquers fear and there are tons of cases in the Holy Scriptures, where we are told not to fear but to believe. Faith in God is built on His love and peace. As a matter of the true bedrock of life, God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind.
For the purposes of our spiritual harmony, let us list out some heavenly insights.
1) The people of Israel were used by God to get His messages and working orders across to the whole world but were not restricted to them alone. Therefore, salvation by Christ Jesus was the perfection of His divine program of bringing the old and new into one sure living way to His righteousness. The Old Testament via the people of Israel was like the school master pointing us to the Truth that is to come. However, when the Truth, who is God in Christ Jesus came, the fulfillment or perfection of all His divine promises became alive or the reality of His divine life in human souls through the living Spirit of God. That is, the manifestation of the divine life of God in the human soul is now the reality from His Spirit in us. This made the divine nature of God a living experience in the lives of those who believe in the will of God, who is Christ Jesus.
2) God’s instructions are life. The instructions are words that bring His Divine Glory into every situation. Hence, when we are blessed with His mercies and placed in a position of esteem in His sight, He expects us to show the leading example with our conducts to the specific instructions He has given us. In Saul’s case, the instruction to utterly destroy the Amalekites for standing in His way when they fought His own, was to show to all humanity that nobody or situation messes with His Anointing. “Touch not My Anointing and do My Prophets (Vessels) no harm.” The issue here was not that of sacrifice, praise, fellowship or worship, nor was it that of offerings as Saul and most human feelings tend to assume with God. This was all about taking the fight of faith into the den of the enemy and utterly destroying them. The spiritual message is for His people to stand strong and whatever is standing in our way to the manifestations of His righteousness, which is His promised land should be matched with all direct attack to the head of the spirit of the enemy by the power and fire of the Holy Ghost. That is, enough is enough with this soft-pedaling religious gimmick with the spirit of error, rather we should spiritually use His power (Spirit) in us to take the fight into the hideout of the enemy (spirit of evil) by bringing life, purpose, happiness, wellness, and light to ourselves and people by guiding them to the promised land, which is salvation, called grace through Christ Jesus.
3) Fear, fear, fear. This is the old weapon of the enemy. With fear in the heart, you always lose focus and strength to carry on. However, with love and peace of God in your heart, they would embolden us and stir the faith that moves mountains. Love and peace does not mean you should not recognize the terrible situation, but the message they feed into our hearts is to focus on the solution instead of the contrary. The reason is that the world has the signal of faith it must respond to, no matter how deep or messy the situation or goal might be. That signal of faith is the transmission of the power of Glory moving all resources to the direction of that signal. This is because the Lord of Glory sees and knows everything from the Throne on High.
4) Therefore, obedience is the ointment in the human soul that miraculously heals and restores the heart to the preeminence of victory and the guarantee that builds lives up to the values of nobility. King Saul lost his nobility once he disobeyed. Adam and Eve too, with so many others who would unknowingly follow this direction of witchcraft (Devilish mandate) and rebellion to the Glory of God the Father in Christ Jesus. Remember, when the devil tempted Jesus to bow down and worship him that he would give Jesus the glories (Decayed riches) of the world? That was the perfect example we are talking about here. Thank God, our Lord is Greater and vehemently rejected it. Disobedience destroys nobility and true purpose.
5) In summary, dear brother and sisters, the heavenly disclosure here is the call to always sincerely put our souls into the presence of the magnificence of His love, truth and glory, even when all things seems very good or wildly depressing in our lives. That is, the true value of life in the soul and the dignity of our different journeys here on earth is to stay connected, and delight in the enriching shelter of HIS HOLY Grace and Peace. The true meaning of blessing is the freedom in the soul that is built on His Power, Love, and Life that streams from His instructions, who is the Living Essence, the Holy Scriptures refers to as His Word…the King of Glory, the only hope to our living prosperity into eternal testimonies in Christ Jesus.
His Love to us never ends and great is His faithfulness in Jesus mighty name.
Thank Your Holy Spirit. Glory to Your Everlasting Majesty Abba Father…Amen!
